Belem dia quatro

Four days in Belem and i still cannot sleep well. It's so frustrating to not be able to sleep through the whole night. And the weird thing is that it's happening to my roommate Tracy as well. The walls crack in this creepy hotel-- I find all hotels creepy, except VEGAS hotels those are amazingly beautiful and new. I wish i had a jacuzzi in this hotel room and a huge bed to myself and someone to rub my feet. But that's not going to happen, especially the foot massage. Nevertheless, this hotel is nice, tiny, but nice. I love the AC because it was about 95 degrees today.
What still amazes me about this city is its beautiful skies. They are so blue and the clouds look fake. They look like a picture perfect.

Today during class a few Brazilian students came to meet us. They were all really nice and very intelligent. Lucas also came with his friend Isabella. They both speak english very well and they both offered to hang with us and show us around. After class we went to Cìrio de Nazarè.
It is one of the oldest churches in Belem. It is a catholic church that has been around for over two centuries. In October, there is a big festival where millions of people come from all over to witness the religious event. It is said that its the largest procession in the world. Apparently, they all worship Nuestra Senora de Nazaret and move her sculpture from one church to the other while people try to get a glimpse of it. It was truly amazing and beautiful.

After, we went to a small gift shop and then to walk around some shops while we waited for Patrick and Raul. The airport finally found and shipped Patrick's luggage but they had to pick it up from Belem's airport.
While we walked we found Isabella's old grade school and we decided to go in and explore it. The walls were painted by the children and some of the art work was actually pretty good.
It was a a really nice big campus and apparently it is one of the best and most expensive private schools in Belem.
We then headed back to the church because there was a buffet next to it. The food like always was amazing and cheap. After lunch we headed to Espaco Sao Jose Liberto. This is a small museum that houses gems and indigenous artifacts.
The building is circa 1749 and apparently it was jailhouse up until 2000. The museum also has a chapel but it is now used as a venue for different cultural events.

We actually went into one of the cells and it was so small. This cell was used as a small museum and it stored a lot of different tools that the inmates would use.
This here was used to punish the inmates by the inmates. And yes it's exactly what it looks like. Many of them maybe even used it to enjoy themselves! YIKES!

After the museum we went inside of a plaza where they sold a lot of small artwork as well as clothes and shoes. I didn't buy anything but i did get a sorvete. Sorvete means ice cream and it was delicious!

We then got dropped off at the Hotel. The sun was beaming down on s so hard that as soon as i got to the hotel i took a small nap. At 9 p.m. Lucas and Isabella came to pick us up and took us to a rock n' roll cafe.
The food and the drinks were amazing!

And the beer is very cheap. $4 reias for a 600 ml bottle. That's about $2 dollars.

At around midnight a live band started to play english rock n' roll. The band was amazing and we all decided to get our groove on. We danced all night until 1 a.m. because we had class at 9 a.m. the next day.

We got to the hotel at around 1:30 a.m. but e did not sleep till around 2:30 a.m.
Boa noite!
